Personal online coaching with a Glasgow-based lifestyle consultant and coach
You do not have to be in the same city as your coach to have meaningful, one-to-one support.
I’m Alistair Johnstone, founder of The Missing Piece and a Glasgow-based lifestyle consultant and coach. I offer private online coaching for people across Scotland who want to understand what is holding them back and make practical changes in their lives.
Over the last nine years, I have supported over 500 people through one-to-one work. My coaching is personal, direct and honest, with a focus on understanding your situation and turning that understanding into action.
Online coaching for people across Scotland
The Missing Piece provides online life coaching for people throughout Scotland, including clients in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Stirling, Perth and across Scotland and the UK.
Online coaching can be particularly useful when distance, work, family commitments or everyday responsibilities make travelling for regular sessions difficult.
The important part is not where you are based. It is having a dedicated space to work on the areas of life that matter to you.
You may be looking for support because:
- you feel stuck and cannot identify the next step
- your confidence has changed
- your relationships are creating difficulties
- you need stronger personal boundaries
- you have goals but struggle to follow through
- you want to make changes to your lifestyle
- you are going through a period of personal change
- you want more direction in your personal development
You do not need to have a perfectly defined goal before you begin.
From understanding the problem to changing what happens next
My approach is personal, direct and honest.
The first part of coaching is understanding your current situation.
What is happening? What keeps repeating? What have you already tried? What do you want to be different?
From there, we look more closely at the patterns behind the situation.
Sometimes the issue is not a lack of knowledge. You may already know what you should do. The difficulty may be acting on it consistently, communicating what you need, maintaining boundaries or responding differently when pressure builds.
Once we understand the pattern, we agree on practical actions.
The emphasis is on actions that can work in your actual life, rather than creating an ideal routine that becomes impossible to maintain.
Future sessions can then be used to review what happened, understand what helped or got in the way and decide what needs to happen next.
Coaching for different areas of life
Life coaching can cover more than one part of your life.
If relationships are affecting your wellbeing or confidence, [Relationship Consulting] can provide a more focused space to work through communication, boundaries and recurring relationship difficulties.
If you are questioning your direction or feel that you have outgrown your current situation, [Personal Development Coaching] can help you examine your habits, priorities and next steps.
For people who struggle to speak up, make decisions or put their own needs into practice, [Empowerment Coaching] can focus on confidence, boundaries and personal agency.
There is also support available through [Goal Planning and Achievement], [Health and Wellness] and the wider coaching services offered by The Missing Piece.
Experience you can rely on
I have spent the last nine years working one-to-one with people who want to make meaningful changes in their lives.
I am an author, speaker and workshop facilitator as well as a lifestyle consultant and coach.
My work is not based on telling everyone to follow the same formula. Different people need different things at different points in their lives.
Some people need clarity before they can act. Others need structure and accountability. Some need to understand why they keep returning to the same behaviour. Others already know what they want but need support to follow through.
Coaching starts with understanding which situation you are actually in.
Coaching is not therapy and does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. It is a practical form of support focused on personal development, choices, behaviour, goals and future direction.

As a neurodiverse woman I've never been able to access CPTSD counselling , due to my processing problems it's been hard but with this service I've found my saviour , Mr Johnstone is an exceptional gentleman who is autism / ADHD trained , working with this service I've been able to change habits in how I deal with the trauma I face daily , there isn't any service or service provider that provides the care and priority support in every aspect of life . This service hasn't just saved my life it gave me my confidence and inspiration to be the best version possible of me ....Posted on Google![]()

For my whole life, I've always struggled with recurring issues from past traumas. That was until I was put in contact with Alistair. The Missing Piece was recommended to me by a friend who had similar challenges to myself, and I could not be more grateful. The service that Alistair provides is not just a service; it's a recalibration of one's self, which is entirely bespoke and personal, built from his own personal experiences so you never truly feel alone. What I've learnt from him is in abundance and he's given me the tools to continue building on that. It's taken a lot for me to turn things around, but I've always felt like nothing was too much trouble (which is something that was a true issue for me before now). And it hasn't been at all easy. I've wanted to quit, had a few wobblies. But he didn't give up on me and now I finally feel like I can be who I need to be, for me and nobody else. I cannot recommend him and The Missing Piece enough. Thank you for helping me break the cycle.Posted on Google![]()

My interaction with Alistair & The Missing Piece came about not as a client but as a fellow passionate advocate for mental health & abuse recovery & advice on professional educational training programs. I personally have endured both mental health breakdowns having escaped a Domestic Abuse marriage, a toxic divorce battle & the loss of both my parents to cancer all at the same time. I am currently going through the courts to have justice served on my abuser. Alistair along with his expertise knowledge & personal journey understands the added stress & trauma this puts on an already difficult adjustment to grief & recovery & my training studies. He has helped me navigate my way through every step of the way without him I’d be floundering, full of self doubt about where to turn or if I’ll ever emerge from those dark places I can go in my mind. He is my voice of reason & logic & has helped immensely me by encouraging me to find my missing piece & the confidence to begin my new journey.Posted on Google![]()

I honestly cannot recommend Alistair enough. His support has genuinely been so life changing for me and I will always be grateful to him for everything he has done in helping me rebuild my life. One day, I was sitting getting ready for the day ahead all the while my ex partner was wrecking the house and shouting at me around about me and my then 6 year old son. That was the day I decided to walk away. A 14 year relationship down the drain. Packed a couple of bags for us and didn’t go back. I was struggling with the effects that come after an abusive relationship like low self-esteem, anxiety, fear, trust issues etc. I was homeless with my child and had no support from the local council in getting us somewhere safe to live. My child has Tourette’s syndrome so coping with a breakup and my own mental health along with the effects that everything had on my child was absolutely draining. I ended up having to quit my full time job that I had worked so hard to get to the position I was in. I went part time but even then it was a struggle and eventually I had to give up my job up completely. This had an even bigger toll on my mental health as I was in my own thoughts 24/7. After about a year and half and thinking I couldn’t cope any more, I came across The Missing Piece on Facebook. At first I was hesitant and just liked posts here and there that resonated with me. But as time went on, I thought this could be someone who could actually help me get back to “me”. I already tried counselors but just felt like I was going around in circles. So I sent that first message. It was scary at first and honestly I wrote and deleted so many messages before finally sending it as I was so scared of asking for help. But I am so glad I did it. By this point I was so withdrawn in myself and lost. He helped me find the strength to make the necessary changes and was there every step of the way day or night. Alistair’s has this calming voice and makes you feel so at ease to talk with. His patience, honesty and support helped me regain my confidence and understand my emotions. He also helped me in my recent PTSD and AuDHD diagnosis and continues to support me when needed. He has helped me realise how these impact my life and emotions and has given me the tools to cope daily. He has a vast range of knowledge that he has also helped me develop a routine and diet that fits around my life which has helped massively. Alistair has also helped with support for my son with his Tourette’s and has provided so much information regarding this. This proves he really listens and takes into consideration everything that affects you and your families life as he truly wants to make a difference. Alistair is compassionate about what he does and puts his all into supporting his clients 100%. No matter how difficult things became, he remained supportive, consistent and honest. Today, I am stronger, happier and more confident than I have been in years and it’s all thanks to Alistair. Life is all slotting into place and thanks to him and the tools he gave me, I have been able to regain my trust and find love again. Something I never thought would be possible. Thank you Alistair. Please if you’re struggling and too scared to send that message to someone to ask for help, choose Alistair. You won’t regret it.Posted on Google![]()

I have to be one of Alistair's most difficult clients 😅 I have had training plans and diets from Alistair in the past and I can assure you they work , not only quickly but efficiently, the best I've ever felt mentally and physically The understanding and patience is something everyone needs , to continue to be consistent in what it is they want to achieve as an individual. Whilst Alistair is understanding, he does not let me make excuses instead he will try to understand why im trying to avoid certain things and remind me why accountability is important. I have come back after times that have affected my life and hes always helped and been there , especially mentally. You would not regret coming over To the Missing Piece , Alistair has not only a wealth of knowledge,he has lived everything we have felt and been through in our lives , and that to me means they have the compassion and empathy to get you through anything 🙏 ❤️Posted on Google![]()

So I’ve been working with Alistair for about just over a month. And I honestly can’t say anything bad about my experience working with him. For a person that finds it hard to open up to people as I’m highly guarded and have high walls up but with Alistair it’s been very easy. I came to Alistair for a trauma bond which he has broken for me and got me out of a potentially dangerous situation. And now Alistair is helping me with childhood trauma and everything else that life has thrown at me. I am very grateful that I’ve met Alistair and I don’t say this lightly as i am very anti men. He’s not only approachable but he’s kind understanding and considerate he’s honestly a top bloke and he’s very compassionate about his work. And he has shown me there is actually nice guys out there that I can trust. I’ve still got a long way to go but with Alistair in my corner I know I will get there. To be honest I wouldn’t want anyone else there.Posted on Google![]()

I’ve been working with Alistair at The Missing Piece for about 6 months now and I so thankful that he is part of my journey. I went to Alistair after going through a lot of trauma in past relationships and from my childhood, I’ve struggled severely over the years because of this and tried to seek help with a few therapy places over the years before I came across The Missing Piece, none of which even scratched the surface or helped with what I had been through. I found Alistair and already i can see and feel a difference in the work that we are doing. He is always there night or day and always available whenever I need him. I’ve never felt more heard, listened to and understood with Alistair . For that I am so very grateful. I still have a good bit to do to try get myself to where I need to be but if it wasn’t for Alistair’s continued support and dedication to help me with all of this I don’t know where I would be now. If anyone if needing help or support please don’t feel afraid to reach out, it’s the best move I ever made. Il always be forever grateful to Alistair for everything 🙏Posted on Google![]()
