Practical, personal coaching from a Glasgow-based lifestyle consultant and coach
If something in your life is not working the way you want it to, it can be difficult to know where to start. You may understand the problem but keep returning to the same behaviour. You may be struggling with confidence, relationships, boundaries, motivation or personal direction. Or you may simply know that you want something to change.
I’m Alistair Johnstone, founder of The Missing Piece and a Glasgow-based lifestyle consultant and coach. My work is focused on helping people understand what is keeping them stuck and turn that understanding into practical change.
Having supported over 500 people through one-to-one work over the last nine years, I bring experience, honesty and a practical perspective to coaching.
Coaching for people in Glasgow
The Missing Piece is based in Glasgow, and my work is grounded in a straightforward understanding of real life.
You do not need to arrive with a perfect plan or a clearly defined goal. Sometimes the starting point is simply knowing that something needs to change.
You might be:
- struggling with confidence or self-belief
- finding it difficult to set or maintain boundaries
- dealing with challenges in a relationship
- feeling stuck in your personal development
- struggling to follow through on goals
- trying to create healthier habits and greater structure
- dealing with a period of change and unsure what to do next
The important thing is not having all the answers before coaching begins. We start by understanding what is actually happening in your life.
A coaching process built around real life
My approach is personal, direct and honest.
Rather than giving you a list of generic motivational ideas, we look at the situation in front of you.
We start by identifying the pattern. What keeps happening? Where do you find yourself making the same decisions, avoiding the same conversations or losing momentum?
Then we look at what may be driving that pattern. This could involve your expectations, habits, reactions, relationships or the way you respond when life becomes difficult.
From there, we agree on realistic actions.
The goal is not to create an impressive plan that lasts for a week. It is to find changes that can actually work within your everyday life.
We then review what happened. What worked? What did not? What got in the way? What needs to change?
That ongoing review helps turn insight into something practical.
Support with relationships, confidence and personal development
Different people come to coaching for different reasons, and there does not have to be one single issue behind the decision to seek support.
If relationships are causing difficulty, [Relationship Consulting] can provide space to examine communication, boundaries, expectations and recurring relationship patterns.
If confidence is the main issue, the focus can move towards decision-making, self-belief, personal boundaries and taking action despite uncertainty.
For people who feel they have lost direction, [Personal Development Coaching] can help bring together goals, habits, priorities and the changes they want to make.
I also provide support around mental wellbeing, health and wellness, goal planning and [Empowerment Coaching], allowing the focus of our work to reflect what you actually need.
Experience you can bring into the room
My work is shaped by both professional experience and my own personal journey.
I am an author, speaker and workshop facilitator, as well as a lifestyle consultant and coach. My coaching is grounded in practical experience rather than simply theory.
My aim is not to tell you how you should live. It is to help you understand your own situation more clearly, make decisions that fit your values and take responsibility for the changes you want to make.
Coaching is not therapy, and it is not a replacement for medical or mental health treatment. It is a practical form of support focused on your present circumstances, choices, goals and future direction.

As a neurodiverse woman I've never been able to access CPTSD counselling , due to my processing problems it's been hard but with this service I've found my saviour , Mr Johnstone is an exceptional gentleman who is autism / ADHD trained , working with this service I've been able to change habits in how I deal with the trauma I face daily , there isn't any service or service provider that provides the care and priority support in every aspect of life . For my whole life, I've always struggled with recurring issues from past traumas. That was until I was put in contact with Alistair. The Missing Piece was recommended to me by a friend who had similar challenges to myself, and I could not be more grateful. The service that Alistair provides is not just a service; it's a recalibration of one's self, which is entirely bespoke and personal, built from his own personal experiences so you never truly feel alone. What I've learnt from him is in abundance and he's given me the tools to continue building on that. It's taken a lot for me to turn things around, but I've always felt like nothing was too much trouble (which is something that was a true issue for me before now). And it hasn't been at all easy. I've wanted to quit, had a few wobblies. But he didn't give up on me and now I finally feel like I can be who I need to be, for me and nobody else. I cannot recommend him and The Missing Piece enough. Thank you for helping me break the cycle.Posted on Google![]()

My interaction with Alistair & The Missing Piece came about not as a client but as a fellow passionate advocate for mental health & abuse recovery & advice on professional educational training programs. I personally have endured both mental health breakdowns having escaped a Domestic Abuse marriage, a toxic divorce battle & the loss of both my parents to cancer all at the same time. I am currently going through the courts to have justice served on my abuser. Alistair along with his expertise knowledge & personal journey understands the added stress & trauma this puts on an already difficult adjustment to grief & recovery & my training studies. He has helped me navigate my way through every step of the way without him I’d be floundering, full of self doubt about where to turn or if I’ll ever emerge from those dark places I can go in my mind. He is my voice of reason & logic & has helped immensely me by encouraging me to find my missing piece & the confidence to begin my new journey.Posted on Google![]()

I honestly cannot recommend Alistair enough. His support has genuinely been so life changing for me and I will always be grateful to him for everything he has done in helping me rebuild my life. One day, I was sitting getting ready for the day ahead all the while my ex partner was wrecking the house and shouting at me around about me and my then 6 year old son. That was the day I decided to walk away. A 14 year relationship down the drain. Packed a couple of bags for us and didn’t go back. I was struggling with the effects that come after an abusive relationship like low self-esteem, anxiety, fear, trust issues etc. I was homeless with my child and had no support from the local council in getting us somewhere safe to live. My child has Tourette’s syndrome so coping with a breakup and my own mental health along with the effects that everything had on my child was absolutely draining. I ended up having to quit my full time job that I had worked so hard to get to the position I was in. I went part time but even then it was a struggle and eventually I had to give up my job up completely. This had an even bigger toll on my mental health as I was in my own thoughts 24/7. After about a year and half and thinking I couldn’t cope any more, I came across The Missing Piece on Facebook. At first I was hesitant and just liked posts here and there that resonated with me. But as time went on, I thought this could be someone who could actually help me get back to “me”. I already tried counselors but just felt like I was going around in circles. So I sent that first message. It was scary at first and honestly I wrote and deleted so many messages before finally sending it as I was so scared of asking for help. But I am so glad I did it. By this point I was so withdrawn in myself and lost. He helped me find the strength to make the necessary changes and was there every step of the way day or night. Alistair’s has this calming voice and makes you feel so at ease to talk with. His patience, honesty and support helped me regain my confidence and understand my emotions. He also helped me in my recent PTSD and AuDHD diagnosis and continues to support me when needed. He has helped me realise how these impact my life and emotions and has given me the tools to cope daily. He has a vast range of knowledge that he has also helped me develop a routine and diet that fits around my life which has helped massively. Alistair has also helped with support for my son with his Tourette’s and has provided so much information regarding this. This proves he really listens and takes into consideration everything that affects you and your families life as he truly wants to make a difference. Alistair is compassionate about what he does and puts his all into supporting his clients 100%. No matter how difficult things became, he remained supportive, consistent and honest. Today, I am stronger, happier and more confident than I have been in years and it’s all thanks to Alistair. Life is all slotting into place and thanks to him and the tools he gave me, I have been able to regain my trust and find love again. Something I never thought would be possible. Thank you Alistair. Please if you’re struggling and too scared to send that message to someone to ask for help, choose Alistair. You won’t regret it.Posted on Google![]()

I have to be one of Alistair's most difficult clients 😅 I have had training plans and diets from Alistair in the past and I can assure you they work , not only quickly but efficiently, the best I've ever felt mentally and physically The understanding and patience is something everyone needs , to continue to be consistent in what it is they want to achieve as an individual. Whilst Alistair is understanding, he does not let me make excuses instead he will try to understand why im trying to avoid certain things and remind me why accountability is important. I have come back after times that have affected my life and hes always helped and been there , especially mentally. You would not regret coming over To the Missing Piece , Alistair has not only a wealth of knowledge,he has lived everything we have felt and been through in our lives , and that to me means they have the compassion and empathy to get you through anything 🙏 ❤️Posted on Google![]()

So I’ve been working with Alistair for about just over a month. And I honestly can’t say anything bad about my experience working with him. For a person that finds it hard to open up to people as I’m highly guarded and have high walls up but with Alistair it’s been very easy. I came to Alistair for a trauma bond which he has broken for me and got me out of a potentially dangerous situation. And now Alistair is helping me with childhood trauma and everything else that life has thrown at me. I am very grateful that I’ve met Alistair and I don’t say this lightly as i am very anti men. He’s not only approachable but he’s kind understanding and considerate he’s honestly a top bloke and he’s very compassionate about his work. And he has shown me there is actually nice guys out there that I can trust. I’ve still got a long way to go but with Alistair in my corner I know I will get there. To be honest I wouldn’t want anyone else there.Posted on Google![]()

I’ve been working with Alistair at The Missing Piece for about 6 months now and I so thankful that he is part of my journey. I went to Alistair after going through a lot of trauma in past relationships and from my childhood, I’ve struggled severely over the years because of this and tried to seek help with a few therapy places over the years before I came across The Missing Piece, none of which even scratched the surface or helped with what I had been through. I found Alistair and already i can see and feel a difference in the work that we are doing. He is always there night or day and always available whenever I need him. I’ve never felt more heard, listened to and understood with Alistair . For that I am so very grateful. I still have a good bit to do to try get myself to where I need to be but if it wasn’t for Alistair’s continued support and dedication to help me with all of this I don’t know where I would be now. If anyone if needing help or support please don’t feel afraid to reach out, it’s the best move I ever made. Il always be forever grateful to Alistair for everything 🙏Posted on Google![]()

Your £75 consultation
Your £75 consultation is a working session in its own right.
We use the time to talk through your situation, identify what needs attention and explore practical next steps. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what type of coaching you need.
The value of the session is in getting a clearer understanding of where you are, what may be holding you back and what could realistically change.
If you decide that ongoing coaching would be useful, we can discuss that. But the consultation itself is designed to give you useful clarity and direction.
